Headaches are one of the most common medical complaints of humankind. Headaches could be manifested as a disease as well as a symptom. His occupation is a businessman and was normal prior to 6 months, and gradually developed headaches in the temporal area which was mild initially and later became severe.

Client Presented with the Following Symptoms:

  • Anidra (sleeplessness)
  • Stavyate cha Shirodhara (tightness of muscles of neck)
  • Sirah Sphurana (pulsatile veins in head)
  • Shankha Nisthoda (pain in temporal area)
  • Bhrumadhya Toda (pain between eyebrows)
  • Akunchanvat pida (squeezing type of pain)

Medical History:

  • Family history: Nothing significant
  • Personal history: On and off constipation
  • Appetite – Poor
  • Micturition 4-5 times per day
  • Sleep  Disturbed

On Examination:

  • Pulse  74/min
  • Blood Pressure – 130/88 mmhg
  • Jivha – Sama yukta (with toxins)
  • Shabda – prakrutha (normal)
  • Sparsha – ushna (hot)
  • Druk – prakrutha (normal)
  • Akruthi  madhyama (medium)
  • Prakruthi (body constitution) – Pitta-Vata
  • Cardiovascular system – Normal
  • Respiratory system – Normal

The client was indulging in irregular mealtimes, going to sleep late at night, overwhelmed and stressed at work, continuously talking to people during meetings, excessive alcohol intake, excessive indulging in spicy and sour foods, constant mind activation and worries about projects, lack of nutritious food, suppression of natural urges like urine, seating in air-condition room, psychogenic factors like fear, grief.

Preventive Measures

  • Avoid over exertion, limit the intake of alcohol beverages.
  • Avoid vata aggravating foods (foods that are drying in nature and lack lubrication).
  • Eating every meal on time and hydrating the body.
  • Regular practice of self-oil massage to head and body.

Client was given both shodhana (detoxification therapy) and shamana (palliative therapy). Initial first 3 days client was given Ashta Churnam for Vatanuloman (correcting the functions of Vata dosha) purpose. Later he had undergone Nasya Karma (nasal drops therapy) with Anu Oil for 7 days which helps to remove toxins from head region and balances vata dosha. Before administration Nasya Karma client was told to practice Shiroabhyanga (Ayurvedic head massage) with Kshirabala Oil which balances vata and pitta. Then he was administered orally with Migrakot Tablets and Dasamula Arishtam to relieve pain. Kshirabala 101 and Mahakalyanaka Ghritam which helps to nourish and lubricate muscles, nerves tissues, and induces good sleep. This whole course of treatment done for 30 days. After the course of therapy client was relieved from pain and tightness of muscles. His sleep was also improved. Then he was advised to follow proper daily regimen as per Ayurveda.
